Description:

Up for sale is a preowned early 1970's Gibson ES-335 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar in 2-Tone Sunburst, a classic double-cut semi-hollow that sits at the center of Gibson’s electric guitar history. This one in particular is a super clean and well-kept example from the from the trapeze tailpiece, small block inlay, narrow nut width, "Made in USA" stamp, and neck volute era. Over the decades, opinions have shifted on these, but all of that aside this is a great playing, great sounding classic USA made Gibson that will only appreciate in value from here.

Researched readers will know that serial number records from this era are not all that helpful to determine the year of manufacture. From the finish and specs, trapeze tail, double ring Klusons, non-embossed pickup covers, and other clues, our best guess would be 1971 or thereabouts. We have not pulled the pots to check for codes, but that would be the next step to triangulate.

Features include a semi-hollow maple laminate body with a solid center block, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, dual "T-Top" humbuckers, traditional ES-335 wiring, ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge with stop tailpiece, and classic Gibson hardware. Great broken-in feel, ultra versatile tones, and all the woody mojo you can ask for. It is a joy to play!

This example shows normal signs of use consistent with an early 1970s instrument but has been exceptionally well kept overall. Finish wear is minimal for its age, the guitar presents cleanly, and it clearly benefited from careful ownership over the years. Frets are in good shape, the neck is healthy, and it plays smoothly up and down the board. Frets are classic 70's low and wide. All original! Original hardshell case included.
