Up for sale is a super clean and tastefully upgraded 2004 Epiphone Les Paul Custom in black & gold. In really great shape for a 20+ year old guitar. This one was made in Korea before Epiphone moved everything over to China. We see great examples from both factories, but the Korean made guitars do seem to have an edge especially in consistency.
The former owner had the electronics fully upgraded. The pickups are Gibson USA '57 Classics, and the neck pickup has been modified (the right way) to be out of phase in the middle position ... often known as the "Peter Green" mod from his Greenie Les Paul. A lot of guitars going for this mod will just flip the pickup around, but the best results are when you actually flip the bar magnet inside the pickup around, which is what has been done here. The pots also appear to have been upgraded, and there are some nice high quality tone capacitors swapped in as well.
The result is that this guitar sounds incredible! Nice clear vintage PAF tones, and tons of versatility with that Peter Green mod. The trick to that tone is to slightly back off the volume of one of the pickups when in the middle position. You get this full, but "quacky" tone that sits really nice in the mix.
Tested 100% fully functional. Comes with an Epiphone hardshell case, and some old case candy (strap, manual, promotional stuff, etc). Guitar is in excellent condition overall. Finish is clean and free from any serious wear and tear ... not mint, but very well kept. Frets are in great shape, and the truss rod works smoothly in both directions.
As always, this guitar has been treated to a brand new set of strings and a deluxe setup here in the shop. That includes a full fret polish, setting neck relief / truss rod, dialing in nut slot height and string action, setting the pickup height and more! So, you can rest assured that it is playing its absolute best!
