Description:

original hardshell case. This is a fantastic example of Gibson’s bold and iconic ’80s-era Explorer design — combining vintage rock attitude with the craftsmanship and tone that made these U.S.-built models so desirable. The Alpine White finish has aged beautifully, giving the guitar a classic, naturally worn look that suits its age and history.

rosewood fingerboard, providing the warm, resonant tone that Explorers are known for. Dual humbuckers deliver thick, punchy output, perfect for anything from hard rock to heavy blues. The comfortable neck profile and set-neck construction make it a solid, sustain-rich player.

Condition is player grade / good, with wear consistent with age and use. The finish shows checking on both the front and back of the body, and there is a visible crack outlining where the neck was set, though it appears stable and structurally sound. No visible cracks, breaks or prior repairs. The guitar also has normal playwear, including pickguard scratches, two notable dings through the finish (one on the back of the headstock and one on the bottom edge of the body), and several smaller cosmetic imperfections throughout. Customers are welcome to call for more details about specific marks or areas of concern.

And to answer a common question we've been getting ... the original owner of this instrument who consigned it with us a few years ago (now recently traded back in to us) had stamped or scratched his social security number under the serial number many years ago. And, then later scratched it out. This has resulted in the serial number being extremely faint and illegible. Based on pot codes, model features, and our general knowledge of the era we would estimate this to be a 1983 or 1984 build. It is almost identical to a 1984 that we personally own, so that is our best guess.

The guitar has been fully set up in our shop with fresh strings, truss rod and relief adjusted, frets polished, and action and pickup height dialed in. It plays comfortably and delivers the bold, mid-forward Gibson tone Explorers are known for, with plenty of sustain and clarity.
