Description:

Up for sale on consignment is a preowned 1953 Epiphone Zephyr Regent in 2-tone sunburst. Built during Epiphone’s original USA era, this is a full-depth cutaway electric archtop fitted with its original neck-position Epiphone “New York” pickup. The guitar has been refretted and plays great, making it a strong vintage player rather than a museum-piece.

The Zephyr Regent features a 17 3/8" full-depth maple laminate body, set mahogany neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with notched block inlays, 25.5" scale length, adjustable rosewood bridge, and trapeze tailpiece. Electronics are simple and original, with a single original Epiphone New York single-coil pickup at the neck and volume and tone controls. These original New York pickups are an important part of the character and value of early-1950s Epiphone electrics ... it sounds great and has plenty of output!

Includes a probably original, and definitely period correct Ess & Ess hardshell case with the faux alligator tolex.

This Zephyr has plenty of honest wear from more than 70 years of use. There is extensive finish checking throughout along with numerous dings, dents, scratches, and other age-related cosmetic wear. The original bikini-style Epiphone headstock logo is missing. The original pickguard is included, but it has been removed because the material has begun to off-gas and has already left a visible reaction mark in the finish beneath the guard. The guitar has also been refretted, which makes it much more usable as an everyday instrument. Despite the cosmetic wear, it is a truly great vintage jazz guitar! Plays great, and was well maintained by an enthusiast collector and player.
