JHS Angry Charlie V3 Channel Drive Pedal

The JHS Angry Charlie V3 is a high-gain overdrive/distortion built to bring the sound and response of a hot British amp to your pedalboard. Voiced around the character of a Marshall JCM800, the Angry Charlie can move from lower-gain vintage breakup to aggressive, sustaining high-gain tones while retaining an amp-like response to your picking and guitar volume control.

Turn the Drive down and the Angry Charlie can cover bluesy, vintage-style crunch. Push it higher and the circuit moves into the heavier British overdrive and distortion sounds that have made the pedal a long-running part of the JHS lineup. Volume and Drive are designed to interact much like the master volume and gain controls of an amplifier, and rolling back your guitar's volume can reduce gain without giving up clarity.

The V3 adds a full Marshall-style three-band tone stack with dedicated Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. Each EQ control is active, allowing you to boost or cut its respective frequency range rather than simply rolling frequencies away. That makes it easy to reshape the Angry Charlie for different guitars, pickups, amplifiers, and speaker combinations while keeping the core JCM800-inspired voice intact.

Compared with earlier versions, the V3 moved to the familiar red enclosure and replaced the previous Presence control with the full three-band EQ. The result is a straightforward five-knob layout with considerably more control over the final sound than the earlier Angry Charlie designs.
