Electro-Harmonix Satisfaction Plus Fuzz Pedal

The Electro-Harmonix Satisfaction Plus expands on the company's original Satisfaction Fuzz with a much broader range of vintage-inspired fuzz sounds. Its analog circuit starts with the bright, cutting character of early-'60s fuzz pedals, then adds adjustable bias, active tone shaping, and a FAT mode that can take the pedal from classic snarl to gated sputter, thicker lead tones, and much heavier low-end fuzz.

Attack controls the amount of input gain and distortion, ranging from relatively mild drive through fully saturated fuzz. Volume sets the overall output level, while the FAT/NORM switch changes the basic voicing. NORM retains the overall circuit character of the original Satisfaction pedal, while FAT adds substantially more bass and body for a bigger, warmer fuzz sound.

Tone is an active tilt-style EQ rather than a conventional treble roll-off. At noon, the EQ is essentially flat. Turning it counterclockwise increases lows while reducing highs, and turning it clockwise adds treble while trimming bass. This gives the Satisfaction Plus considerably more flexibility for matching different guitars and amplifiers than the original two-knob Satisfaction.

The Bias control adjusts the signal bias feeding the first transistor stage. Noon gives the most open and neutral response; moving counterclockwise increasingly starves the circuit for choked, gated fuzz, while clockwise settings produce a more hollowed-out character. Bias also interacts with Attack, so different combinations can produce everything from smooth sustaining fuzz to deliberately broken and sputtering textures.
