Here is a really cool Japan made Ibanez bass in a rare finish. This is a 1996 Ibanez Soundgear SR885 5-String in Jade Metallic. This color was only offered in 1996, and with the active ADX5 pickups and Vari-Mid active preamp, this is a rare beast. These early MIJ Soundgear basses are finally starting to be recognized for the tremendous value they offer. They are super comfortable to play, versatile, and high quality instruments.
This one, as you can see in the pictures, appears to have been mostly stored in its case all these years. There is one small chip on the back edge of the headstock at the tip, but otherwise it is super clean and even still has the factory control overlay plastic under the knobs. The former owner put on a set of black tapewound flats, which may or may not suit the next owner ... but they are comfortable to play and have a nice warm tone.
The ADX5 Dynamix pickups and Vari-Mid preamp combo were pretty unique to the SR885, and only from 1994 to 1997. The pickups were only offered on a few other models, most notably the K5 Fieldy Signature (Korn bassist).
Comes with the original Ibanez molded hardshell case, which was probably an upgrade at the time of purchase.
Tested 100% fully functional. As always, this guitar has been treated to a deluxe setup here in the shop. That includes a full fret polish, setting neck relief / truss rod, dialing in nut slot height and string action, setting the pickup height and more! So, you can rest assured that it is playing its absolute best!
