The SM57 is one of the standard workhorse microphones for live sound and recording, particularly for guitar amplifiers, snare drums, percussion, brass, and other acoustic or amplified instruments. Its cardioid pickup pattern provides good rejection from the rear, while the contoured 40Hz–15kHz frequency response gives it the familiar midrange presence that works especially well for close-miking instruments. A pneumatic shock-mount system helps reduce handling noise, and its simple, rugged construction is built for regular stage and studio use.
